Chevrolet Volt Concept CAR

The latest word from General Motors is the Chevrolet Volt will cost about $35,000 when it arrives in showrooms at the end of 2010, about five grand more than the company had hoped.

GM says problems designing accessories like windshield wipers and an audio system that won't drain the Volt's batteries have forced its engineers to design expensive "redundant systems" that are driving up costs.

"It's starting to look like it's going to be closer to $35,000," GM spokesman Dee Allen told us, confirming a report by Canwest News. "We had set a target of $30,000, but if it comes in closer to $35,000 and it means meeting the 2010 deadline, that's the direction we're going to go."

GM product boss Bob Lutz told us last month that the Volt would probably cost more than the $30,000 GM had targeted and said the accessory systems are one of the biggest challenges. So what's the problem? And have you seen that bizarre TV ad for the Volt?

GM says the Volt's lithium-ion batteries will provide a range of 40 miles and a one-liter engine will power a generator that will keep the vehicle going beyond that. In most cars, accessories like windshield wipers, air conditioning and the stereo are powered by the battery, which is recharged by the engine through the alternator, or directly by the engine. But the Volt doesn't have an alternator, and it has something draining the batteries other cars don't - the wheels. They need all the juice they can get.

"You really start taking away from the range when you're using 10-speaker audio systems, wipers," Allen says. "These systems need to be redone, and they are being redone."

GM has no doubt it will solve the problem, but not in time to meet the 2010 deadline. The first-generation Volts will have workarounds GM called "redundant systems." Allen couldn't tell us anything more about that, but said second-generation Volts will be "more refined."

The V-Max’s all-new 70-degree V4 engine is also likely to feature a sophisticated VTEC system, electronic ride-by-wire and other high-tech bits It won’t be cheap though – the 2009 V-Max is expected to cost more than US$22,000. Yamaha YZF R1 176mph (283 km/h)

The Yamaha YZF-R1 motorcycle, introduced in 1998, was the first significant motorcycle in the true litre class (1,000 cc) "handling arms race" between the Japanese Big Four motorcycle manufacturers (Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki and Yamaha) When introduced, it took the class closer to a true racing motorcycle, and increased the handling capabilities. It is recognized by Guinness World Records as the "Most powerful production motorcycle" and the "Most expensive production motorcycle".Unlike other contemporary motorcycles(such as the Hayabusa), 2001 and later models of MTT Turbine SUPERBIKE do not have the 300 km/h speed limit self-imposed by Japanese manufacturers. Kawasaki Ninja ZX-14 (ZZR1400) 186 mph (300 km/h)

The Kawasaki Ninja ZX-14, named Kawasaki ZZR1400 in Europe and Japan, is the flagship model in Kawasaki's sport bike lineup and their most powerful model. The Ninja can accelerate to 100 kilometers per hour (62mph) from a standing start in under 25 seconds, and is capable of completing a standing quarter mile in about 9.83 seconds. Aprilia Tuono R

Aprilia Tuono R, though the Triumph Speed Triple is a very close second. With its mix of aggressive and beautifully proportionate styling, stonking V-twin engine, and high-spec chassis and suspension bits, the Tuono R is one hell of a machine for those who want the ultimate in sportsbike performance, but can’t be bothered with racebike-style fairings and extreme ergonomics. The Tuono R was indeed the best streetfighter in 2006, though it will have some stiff competition from the KTM 990 Superduke R and the BMW HP2 Megamoto in 2007।

Toyota Altis

The tenth generation Toyota Corolla made its international entry in October 2006. Now Toyota will launch the new toyota altis in India in September 2008.
With a sharp looking headlamps, grille and the bumper it will certainly not going to be a futuristic car like Honda Civic .Instead corolla will represent itself as a smart and a good looking car.The current 1.8L engine may be turned into a more powerful and better efficient engine having a torque of 165Nm and 4200 rpm. The 2008 toyota altis will be 10mm longer, 60mm wider and 20mm lower than the current model. The wheelbase will be unchanged at 2,600mm, but with the wider track and lower center of gravity the handling should be noticeably improved. The extra width should also improve cabin space, and although slightly lower, the toyota corolla altis is still 50mm taller than the Honda Civic. The new toyota corolla altis will be powered by a 1.8L engine developing around 140bhp. This engine is a carryover from the existing Toyota Corolla but will be tweaked for better performance. A four speed auto box will be offered as optional. However the new toyota corolla altis won’t come with diesel engine initially.

Maruti Splash

With a number of revolutionary car launches at the Delhi Auto Expo 2008, now it is the season of cars, especially small and cheapest ones. Competing with all the automobile giants in India, Maruti, the successful Indian company has come out with their latest launch, a small but efficient car named 'Splash'. Maruti Suzuki is all set to make a Splash in the Indian market with the car. The Splash is Suzuki's fourth strategic world model and is based on the hot selling Swift. Targeting the Indian families, Splash will roll out to Indian roads in 2008.

Maruti Splash is orientated strongly towards the European design style. The second generation Agila for Opel/Vauxhall is built similar to this splash. Maruti Suzuki’s new wagon-R(splash) has some hints of both the Swift and SX4. Rather than a purely functional box shape (like the Wagon R!), the Suzuki designed the new small car that corresponds to the Splash name: youthful, fresh and stylish.

Maruti Suzuki’s Splash will be marketed for its such high seating position, good visibility and spacious interiors. Splash will avail excise benefits, as its length is less than 4 m. Splash is built on a 30 mm shorter wheelbase version of the Maruti Suzuki’s Swift platform. The 3.72 m-long, 1.6metres tall and 1.7metre wide Suzuki’s splash will offer comfortable space for five occupants due to clever pacakaging. Suzuki’s splash is very cleverly engineered, here’s one feature that elucidates the splash’s clever engineering - rear seat of the splash can be folded down at a flick of the wrist to create a completely flat load floor, with a compartment beneath providing additional storage space. The end result is the splash will have 1150 liters of stowage space when the seats are folded.

The Splash is a taller hatchback with enough and more extra space.

The pricing would be a little higher than the Maruti Swift in the range of Rs. 4.5-5.5 lakh.
